We get it, we get it. It’s frustrating to take the time to download or stream a video, only to discover that it is in Spanish, at least as far as you know, since you don’t speak Spanish. A future version of the software, certainly by commercial release, will have language listings for videos. You’re welcome. Eventually.

And in the meantime, how’s this to sate your appetites for information? We’re publicly disclosing all the items we’re working on on our beta “to do list” page. Please post comments there on feature requests, thank-you’s, or flames. And also, thank you to all posters so far for refraining from flames and bad language. Can’t speak for those sending us emails, but the posts are ok.

When the beta was started, we set all users to a maximum bandwidth usage of 35 Gb, reasoning that that was a lot for watching videos while streaming. Since many of you have used up all of that allotment, our guess is that there is frantic archiving going on, and of full DVD-length (uncompressed) material. Or there’s really nothing else on.

We want you to have fun and really get a feel for the application, so we’re resetting the allocations back to 35 Gb for people who’ve exceeded.

Clearly, people are enjoying Graboid, despite all the hiccups associated with beta software. That’s great! Try and get outside once in a while though to enjoy the sun.

The first ‘interim’ survey of the beta trial went out just now, to everyone who was invited to the trial and given a password. Only 2/3 of you have actually logged in and downloaded the software - shame! There are over 1,000 people on the waiting list.

We’re excited to get some data on how things are going, including getting some suggestions on an appropriate slogan for Graboid. Put on your creativity caps and open up those surveys!

After a few exciting days, things have settled down a bit. Less commentary on the blogs, as we address many issues in our FAQs, and a slowing down of support requests, about 50% of them now relating to userid/password issues. Every once in a while we get a true “bug” reported, a highly valuable element of any beta trial. And we have a view of baseline useability issues that are being worked on as well.

We’ll be issuing our first post-launch survey in a couple of days, now that we’ve resolved most of the critical issues. And sometime next week we’ll probably issue the first software upgrade. Thanks to everyone so far for providing us great feedback! And apologies to all the Mac users out there who we don’t have a product for yet (and who we didn’t warn of this fact prior to launch).

If you’re running any version of Windows Vista, you may be experiencing sound without video. Please see this page for a simple solution. Make sure you close the media player and start playback again for the changes to take effect, and if the issue persists please shoot us an e-mail.

In a word, yes. But there’s lots of speculation and disagreement on the subject, so let’s address it head on. We’ve created a Legal FAQ, and opened it for comments. We will be deleting all posts in other areas on the subject of legality and pointing people to the FAQ.

Alright, as of 11am, everyone who is a confirmed registrant for the beta trial will have received emails with their launch instructions and passwords (2 separate emails). We’re going to run this thing for a month now. More surveys will be coming soon.

We get an alarming number of people emailing us that their usernames/passwords don’t work. The passwords are complex and system-generated. Please cut and paste them into the password field, or be verrrry careful when you type them in!
