There was a partial server outage from 5:15pm to 6pm. We’ve cut back on new member signups to preserve service quality for our existing members, while we work to increase capacity. Thank you for using Graboid!

We hoped that a few days of the new comment feature would settle some of the misuse down, but it hasn’t and we’ve removed it again. Most of the comments were just confusing new users and annoying existing users. We’re re-thinking the architecture of the comment function and we’ll reintroduce it when we think we can make it more useful.
Some of the suggestions to us have been very helpful, including the suggestion from a user to allow posts only from the downloaded area, so people who’ve actually downloaded (or tried to) could comment. We also think that allowing commentary only from premium users would limit the more frivolous of them, and perhaps even having it be an entirely premium-only feature.
For certain, if we re-introduce the feature, we’ll have a bury function similar to digg or other large-scale commentary sites.
Comments are off for this post, but feel free to discuss in our user forum. Thanks.

We’ve had a problem the last few days with users not having their bandwidth reset on the proper day. This was a result of the same server issues we had last weekend and was fixed today. If you experience any problems with bandwidth not resetting, please wait one day past the date your expect, and if it still doesn’t reset, email technical support and they’ll take care of it, whether you’re a premium or a free user.
For technical issues, please visit our forums.

After some server upgrades and code tweaking, we’ve re-introduced comments for individual video files. This feature was incredibly popular when we first tried it last week, so we’re keeping a close eye on our servers to make sure the load increase is reasonable. Let us know in the user forums what you think, and of course, post there if you have any technical issues of any sort.

We had intermittent server problems from 1pm to 9pm today. Everything is back online now.

It looks like our new commenting system is putting a tremendous load on our server. We’re going to disable it for now, which will hopefully solve the problems users have been experiencing with accessing Graboid. In the meantime we’ll be optimizing the way the comment system works to alleviate these issues before we put this feature back in place.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

We’ve added a few exciting and useful new features to Graboid this morning: comments and attributes.
The next time you’re in Graboid and you click on a video title you’ll be able to view and add comments to share your thoughts and experiences with other Graboid users. By default you only see the two most recent comments, but clicking the + button expands the comment box to reveal all of the comments and the form to post your own. You also now have the ability to sort by # of comments by simply clicking the “Comments” header.
Now you’ll be able to find out just what you’re getting before you view or download a video. When you click a title to reveal the playback options, you’ll now see “Video Format”, “Video Source”, and “Audio Format” just beneath the video’s title (when available).
We’ve optimized the code so Graboid should now load somewhat faster for users on slower connections.
We will leave comments open on this post for the time being because we’d love to hear your feedback about these updates. Just remember, the forum is for support questions, not the comments section here.

We’ve heard of many solutions for watching Graboid videos on your TV instead of your PC. Everything from burning DVDs to attaching a 20 foot VGA cable. The best solution of course is to directly stream from your PC to your TV. We’ve tested a few solutions, and although an Apple TV is slick, the requirement to run every video through Videora to get it into iTunes is annoying.
We’ve finally found a product that is not too expensive, plays any format file, and is easy to use. It’s the D-Link PC to TV Wireless router. Click on the picture to find out more or buy it.
If you use it and like it (or don’t), please post in our user forum.

We’ve had a lot of success with the Stars program over the past few months, and we’re now closing off new signups for a little while. We’re not disabling the program - any current Stars members with free accounts will continue to get the upgraded benefits of Stars.
Thanks for enjoying Graboid!

We made a change today to the default sort order of titles when logging in. Previously, we would display the most recent content on login, and now we display the content that has the most positive votes. It has resulted in a large spike in usage from new users, leading us to believe to many people perhaps don’t know you can sort search results by column header (title, recency, size, votes).
So for the record, clicking on column headers will sort the results by that header. Clicking again will reverse the sort order (e.g. A-Z will change to Z-A).
Once you change the sort, it will stay on the new settings until you change it again. Hopefully, this will make it easier to find the videos you want.
