When the beta was started, we set all users to a maximum bandwidth usage of 35 Gb, reasoning that that was a lot for watching videos while streaming. Since many of you have used up all of that allotment, our guess is that there is frantic archiving going on, and of full DVD-length (uncompressed) material. Or there’s really nothing else on.
We want you to have fun and really get a feel for the application, so we’re resetting the allocations back to 35 Gb for people who’ve exceeded.
Clearly, people are enjoying Graboid, despite all the hiccups associated with beta software. That’s great! Try and get outside once in a while though to enjoy the sun.

Thanks for the extra bandwidth.
That’s awesome thanks guys.
Figured I could help with the speculation by letting you know my usage pattern and my reasoning behind it:
I go through and find movies I have either seen but do not own yet or are on my queue for Netflix and haven’t been delivered yet. I then go through them starting with the smaller file sizes and play each one until I find one that satisfies my viewing requirements of in English, plays nicely, and is of fairly good quality. Once I find the one I deem worthy I archive it and walk away. Reasoning behind archiving is that you can skip around and most of the streaming ones don’t let you so you either have to pause it or leave or do something else for x minutes until you are back to where you left off.
I have yet to download a dvd image and still managed to hit my 35 gig limit. I did notice that on my particular system you have to archive the dvd images to get vlc to play them, otherwise I get the stare at the menu. Figured this may be just for my or I may be doing something wrong.
Anyway, hope this helps. I have about 10-15 archived at the moment but at 700-1.5 gigs each that adds up really fast.
Thank you very much.
Thanks so much for your prompt answers to my email and for increasing our bandwidth! Thanks!
hey, i have been wondering, is there a irc channel or some kind of chat for this project. i don’t like to send mails or post in forums i rather pm somone on a chat.

[moderator: that's a great idea Jesper, we've set up shop in #graboid on Undernet]
I just logged in & as of now mine has not been reset anyone else notice this has not happehed yet? Heres what I get:
Welcome ok. Your usage data follows. Contact e-mail: p—–54@yahoo.com

Evertihings been nice considering this is beta!
[moderator: As mentioned in the post: "we’re resetting the allocations back to 35 Gb for people who’ve exceeded". This was to allow heavy usage users the chance to continue participating, and we might do this again in the future.]
I personally used up a LOT of bandwidth due to redownloading the same content because Graboid kept freezing or BSOD my pc when I tried streaming movies.
Streaming did work a few times but most of the time it just crashed the entire pc, forcing me to try again .. until I gave up. I now exclusively archive because that’s almost stable and in the rare cases when it crashes it only shuts down graboid and not my entire pc.
I have also moved the Graboid folder to another drive with much more space than my C drive because Graboid also crashed or caused or problems when it used up all remaining space on my C drive.
@Jman : I can’t stream DVD’s either - It stops at the DVD menu on my computer too (if it doesn’t crash)
It was particularly annoying because it’s hard to see what movies are DVD’s when you browse - Especially because the Filesize indication is not always correct.
I’m wondering why we have a bandwidth limit - I thought Graboid connected to multiple available newsservers around the globe from many ISP’s so there should be no need to limit bandwidth from Graboid - Do you use your own private newsserver for Graboid ?
BTW I think the bandwidth usage now is inflated .. People use it a lot because it’s new and exciting. Once people grow used to it and once streaming works without problems , people can just watch a movie whenever they feel like it and will thus stop hording movies to watch later as they probably do now because they don’t have truely functioning on-demand movieaccess.
[moderator: we agree that because streaming is far from perfect, the usage stats aren't accurate. But bandwidth costs money, so we've got to have some level of control over the amount of bandwidth that a user can consume -- as mentioned in the FAQ, the allotted quota may increase or decrease throughout the beta.]
appreciate the bandwidth, thanks guys. lovin the program.
Really glad I can still test this. Thanks a Million.
I downloaded Fantastic 4 Silver surfer. The download was very fast, the quality of the video slightly on the dark side.
The language is FRENCH…. there are several downloads for this movie, but it does not state the language.
I could use some help.
Thank you.
I do agree that having the language listed would be a great help. Nothing is more frustrating than archiving something, and finding out later that it is in a different language when you try to watch it.
Thanks for the extra bandwidth. However, due to a bug I can’t get any new content. Email a bug report soon.
Well that’s it .. My bandwidth remaining now reads a negative amount.
Any chance you’ll be reseting the limit again .. perhaps soon ?
My bandwith counter is negative - can you reset it.
Please.
I enjoy the service U provide - U ‘re the ROCK
well i guess i have reached my limit on bandwith just after i get to watch a few.I guess ill learn to speak german. to watch the movies….lol
[moderator: language listings are included in the next release]
Hello,
I hit my limit just before the public release. Now I can’t even watch a vid.
Could someone reset my limit…
Heyy!!
How do you reset your bandwidth
i have used 3.9 gb and it says that i dont have enough bandwidth to watch movies anymore
thanks!!
[moderator: If you're on a paid account, then log in, and you can do a plan 'upgrade' to the same plan you're on now, i.e., renew early. That will reset your bandwidth and start a new 1 month period. Free accounts reset every month. If you still have 3.9 GB then you should be able to watch any files that are under 2 GB (compressed movies).
I just got a free account & got super-addicted watching episodes of weeds — just streaming, not downloading. There were a number of times that I needed to rebuffer/restart a video, but I didn’t understand that there was a limit & I guess I used up all my bandwidth @ 4.0 GB. I am not really computer saavy and don’t know anything about bandwidth — how does this work? Am I understanding correctly that it will reset every month — if so, when (on the 1st of the month)?
HELP!! I need to find out what happens & just have a few episodes left. I’m trying to decide if I need to upgrade or if I wait until Dec 1st my bandwidth limit will be reset.
Thanks — other than that, I love the site & look forward to being able to use it again soon…
[moderator: Bandwidth resets every 30 days, based on when you signed up, not the 1st of the month. So you can wait until 1 month from your start date, OR, just pay $2.97 and watch all the episodes. There's no commitment, cancel immediately, you'll still get the full 10 GB (about 25 episodes of a 1 hour show). Glad you're enjoying the service.]
Hi there. I havnt long had this, a few days at most but i really love it ! Apart from the fact there is a limit which i didnt realise ^^ Well thats no real problem…the problem was that ive only ‘downloaded’ 2 movies (tomb raider and south park movie) I stream the videos unaware of bandwidth limits and I went to stream Never Back Down (i LOVE that film) but cos i had a lot of internet apps running it kept needing to buffer and i had to close it 3-4 times unaware that everytime i clicked stream it dug into my bandwidth again until i tried streaming it again and it said i used up my bandwidth ^^ Is there anyway to stop this from happening? Is it possible for me to have a little more bandwidth so i can download instead of stream this movie?
That really sucked
