It looks like our new commenting system is putting a tremendous load on our server. We’re going to disable it for now, which will hopefully solve the problems users have been experiencing with accessing Graboid. In the meantime we’ll be optimizing the way the comment system works to alleviate these issues before we put this feature back in place.

We’ve added a few exciting and useful new features to Graboid this morning: comments and attributes.

Comments

The next time you’re in Graboid and you click on a video title you’ll be able to view and add comments to share your thoughts and experiences with other Graboid users. By default you only see the two most recent comments, but clicking the + button expands the comment box to reveal all of the comments and the form to post your own. You also now have the ability to sort by # of comments by simply clicking the “Comments” header.

Attributes

Now you’ll be able to find out just what you’re getting before you view or download a video. When you click a title to reveal the playback options, you’ll now see “Video Format”, “Video Source”, and “Audio Format” just beneath the video’s title (when available).

Speed Improvements

We’ve optimized the code so Graboid should now load somewhat faster for users on slower connections.

We will leave comments open on this post for the time being because we’d love to hear your feedback about these updates. Just remember, the forum is for support questions, not the comments section here.

The server that maintains the download index for all Graboid content went down between 5PM EST and 10:30PM EST on May 12th. It is now online again and functioning normally.

This server outage caused all download attempts to return the following message: “There was an error trying to request the download information for the selected file. Please check your internet connection, restart the application and try again.” You should no longer be seeing this error message.

Due to popular demand, we are pleased to announce that we have just added the ability to directly and securely use Visa and MasterCard credit cards for Graboid account upgrades.

You’ll now find that under the “Account” tab in Graboid Video you have the option to choose between either the PayPal or Credit Card payment options.

We hope members who don’t have PayPal accounts (or who don’t wish to utilize PayPal) will find this to be a convenient way to take their Graboid subscriptions to the next level.

American Express and Discover credit card-holders can continue to enjoy fast, secure and convenient payment processing exclusively through PayPal, and any Visa or MasterCard card-holders are welcome to choose to continue using PayPal, or to use the new Credit Card payment option.

The Graboid Team is pleased to announce the release of Graboid Video 1.2.

The improvements in this release include:
• Language Filtering — One of the most requested features, this allows you to display search results containing only the languages that you choose.
• A New Installer and Auto-Updating System — The installer has been streamlined, and the auto-updater has been rewritten from scratch for greater flexibility.
• A desktop shortcut is now automatically created upon installation.
• Many big bugs have been squished, particularly those involving videos not appearing in the queue or downloading properly on some systems.

Please note that Graboid Video 1.1 will not automatically upgrade to 1.2. Because of the changes we’ve made to the automatic updating service, you will need to manually upgrade to this version.

If you’re upgrading, we suggest that you first uninstall Graboid Video from your system, and then install 1.2 from scratch. Not to worry — all of your videos will be safe throughout the upgrade.

Incorporating many of your requests, version 1.1 of Graboid Video is now available for download and as an automatic update to all Graboid users.

Amongst the slew of new features and fixes, here’s the most exciting:

• Increased the maximum size limitation for streaming video files from 1GB to 2GB
• Added the ability to play ripped DVD files from within Graboid
• Added the ability to vote on videos from your completed download list
• Completed downloads list is now automatically sorted by video name
