Post here instructions on how to play (stream) directly from the app, and how to download videos and make sure they work.

There are a slew of keyboard shortcuts that can be used when playing videos in Graboid, if you are in full screen mode:

  • <F> takes you in and out of fullscreen
  • <space> play/pause
  • <M> mute
  • <K> cycle subtitle track (available only on certain full DVD rips)
  • <A> cycles through aspect ratios
  • <L> cycles through audio tracks (when there are multiple tracks)
  • <+> plays faster
  • <-> plays slower
  • <alt left arrow> jump backwards
  • <alt right arrow> jump forwards
(use ctrl-arrow or alt-ctrl-arrow for respectively longer jumps)

Languages - Sometimes a video has multiple audio tracks, particularly if it is a full DVD rip. You can cycle audio tracks in VLC, or full screen Graboid playback by pressing L. If you download an english flag video and it's in french, it almost certainly has an alternate track.

Burn to DVD - Many software packages can do this for you. One many use is DVDflick which is free http://www.dvdflick.net/ . It's pretty simple, but life hacker has an excellent tutorial:
http://lifehacker.com/software/dvds/hack-attack-burn-almost-any-video-file-to-a-playable-dvd-232322.php

Convert for iPod/iTunes/AppleTV - If you'd like to convert any .avi file (most of the files you get from Graboid), get the free program Videora at http://www.videora.com There's a version for every model of iPod or AppleTV.

It's not ctrl-L, it's just 'L', or 'K'.

For general playback issues, please post in the 1.x tech forum.

It looks like it's downloading, but it's actually getting ready to stream. Just wait a minute and you'll see "Buffering X%" in the red bar at the bottom of the screen.

Click the downloads tab and it will show you the remaining time and other info about the download.

Question: When I download a video, it plays back fine on my laptop. But when I plug in my projector to watch it on the wall, the sound plays but the screen comes up black on the wall. No picture. Do you have any idea what that happens?

I watch all kinds of DVDs on my wall via my laptop projector.

Thanks!

This has to be configuration-dependent. Can you see your Windows desktop on your wall? A resolution mis-match between your computer and your projector can cause this. Usually if you start up your projector there's an auto-detect option on video source. Then you plug in the PC and the resolutions are set to match automatically. Is that of any help?

Thanks Holly. Actually no, that's not the problem. Because I can see the player on the wall, just not the video inside the player. I hear the audio fine also.

Is there a way I can download and then play it in media player? I tried doing this, but again only the sound played.

Thanks!

Just click download instead of play, and you'll get the whole file. You can find it on your PC by clicking the title in the completed downloads area, and click locate. Then just doubleclick on the right file and it will open in VLC, or if you have the right codecs, you can play in Windows Media Player. In all likelihood, this is a codec problem within Graboid. Have you tried any other files?

Do a search on 'codec' and you'll find a few posts on where to get a free complete set.

Post i can't play a video Reply with quote
I went into the tv shows and pressed play on one of the videos and it started downloading and the buffering thing at the bottom started loading as well. The buffering reached 100% and it played a little bit of the video before saying that it had to rebuffer. I said yes to it then i did something else and now there is no buffering at the bottom of the download page and i don't know how to watch what is downloading so far. The video is still downloading though. Sad Plz someone help.

Playing and downloading do the same thing, but when you click play, it also streams the video while it downloads. That's why you see 'downloading' even though you hit play.

Are you sure you're using the application, vs trying to play on the website? You have to download it, install, launch, and set up your new account. Then you log in and the first window you see should be a list of videos. You can click on any title to see all the file play/download etc options.

Since you're able to log into the forum, it would appear you signed up for the account properly. If you ARE in the app already, just try quitting and logging in again.
