Watch Full-Length Videos Online

In general, people who’ve used both, prefer 1.0. When there are issues, here they are, and here’s our take on it.
1. 0.95 does not have better control over video playback because it’s an external application? No, 1.0 has the precise same functionality, just click on the title once it’s downloaded, hit reveal, and doubleclick the downloaded file. It will still open up in VLC player. You can’t do it for streamed files, but you couldn’t skip around the video in 0.95 either when streaming.
2. 0.95 automatically loads the IMDB information in a window in the browser. While some may prefer this, it slows down the title loading process (because it auto-loads the web page every time). Most people prefer the ‘more info’ approach.
3. 0.95 allows streaming of files > 1GB. Yes, this is a limitation of 1.0, but it will be removed in a future patch. In the meantime, it removes a major source of frustration for the majority of users who could never stream larger files anyway, and stops the ubre-annoying issue with movies stopping halfway through because of multi-disc/file 1.5 GB movies or tv shows.
We appreciate your input on what you prefer and why, because it helps us evolve the product. But we just wanted you to understand why we’ve done it the way we’ve done it.

Does Vs. 1.0 work properly with Vista? I have downloaded vs 1.0 and every time I open it, it will almost instantly close saying there is an error and it has closed. Can you help with this issue?

I have to say there are 2 things I don’t like about the new release. The first being that the comments section has been taken out of the 1.0. This was a valuable resource for sorting out the bad files, which while smaller in numbers than reg bit torrent is still a VERY common occurance and a source of frustration for many of us here. The second being a hope that all of the database is hooked back up! Example, all of the episodes of a show used to be available in the beta version… now only one is.
[moderator: we don't control the content, however new material is posted every day, so check back for the videos you're looking for. It's not a function of the version. As for the comments section, it was woefully underutilized, so we're figuring out a user-interface that will make more people contribute, and then we'll add equivalent functionality back in.]
Couple of things:
1. The absolute main reason why I like Graboid over the other P2P providers what the nice integration with IMDB. Removing this feature instead of making it an option is huge mistake both from what made you unique and having it be a “more info” button (requiring 2 additional clicks) demonstrates a lack of understanding of your users use cases or an inability to design UIs. I am hoping of the first and this problem will be resolved quickly.
2. Looks like you were more interested in colors than functionality. I and others have told you the main thing we were looking for was better sorting/filtering capabilities. Instead of providing this we got a cute UI that forces the user to make many more mouse clicks to do what they could do before. My guess if you poll your users they care more about:
- less mouse clicks,
- faster downloads,
- better sorting/filtering
Pretty pictures of your product are nice for glossies and screen shots but won’t get customers flocking to you like basic functionality that makes user get their task done quickly.
[moderator: what we're interested in is making this program as functional as possible while making it easier to use as well. We're working to address some of the issues you raise, however, don't assume that your opinion is indicative of the majority. People who are new to Graboid dramatically prefer 1.0 over previous incarnations (we tell this from usage and conversion stats). The new version has 2x the adoption rate of the previous version, and once installed, has 2x the usage rate per user. If you have a specific idea on how the interface should operate, please suggest it! We love hearing suggestions.]
Just a few comments after using the new format. I totally agree with Bruce. My favorite feature was having the split screen title/IMBD review on the selected movie before deciding to download. Now, it is extremely time consuming to read each review. Not only do we have additional clicks, but an increase in overall scrolling as well. Also, it was great having the downloads in alphabetical order with multiple titles together as well as negative/positive downloads. We must now scroll and keep hitting “NEXT” randomly looking through titles. Now it is impossible to search for a specific title. (SEARCH button does not work). It was also nice having the % download progress at the bottom of the task bar.
Thanks for allowing me to post my initial experience with the new version!
I like the new look, but looks don’t make things work. If you fix the scoll + the search (don’t work) do away with the next button I’d be as happy as a frog on a fly farm!!!!!
I love the new look. I love everything about it except the search not working. But Iam sure you have heard it. Great job!!
I like the look but what I’d really like is for my old files to be there. In the past I’d flag file and download them when I had space and time. Then watch on my days off. Much to my surprise I upgraded today and my flagged and downloaded files are gone. Now I’ll have to use this months allotment just to got get everything again?
What’s up with that?
Thanks,
Mel
Hi Melissa,
I had the same problem and i uninstalled graboid and reinstalled it. Also i changed my anti virus program so it could have been one or the other.
The new look is nice and all but seriously would it hurt to have a language filter? Or would it hurt to fix the fact that one cannot use the wheel on the mouse to scroll?? Would it hurt to fix the fact that when you want to log out and not close the program it signs you back in automatically if you have “sign me in automatically” checked off because it doesn’t allow you to click the logout or “cancel” button?? It would make the program much better if you fix these problems.

Based on the follow up comments, looks like I am not off base. FYI: I architect systems for a living and have found that where beautiful user interfaces make great glossies and tend to draw people initially in, what folks really care about is functionality and minimizing the number of steps to perform a given operation.
I have made suggestions before on the “feature requests” section of the forum, please look up my posting. But for a quick overview is filtering and sorting by contents, language, rating; content compression when there are multiple versions of the same video, etc. With the introduction of 1.0 I would like to add the following:
- return back to the split screen (so folk that want to step thru the movies using the IMDB to determine if they should download it),
- removing the bleeding of your implementation on the UI. Don’t make the user to manually page (next) thru the record set… when the scroll off the bottom (or top) of the list compute where the cursor should be and fetch the proper record set.
- I don’t know how many people need to tell you, they want filtering and sorting. Come on folks, you already have categorized the videos, stick them in a memory mapped database table and build your SQL statement on the fly and show the user what they want… This shouldn’t take more than a day worth of programming and will EVERY customer happy.
