As we continue to develop our beta software, we get a lot of customer feedback. We’d like to know something just a bit different now. Email or post here… what are the features that you’re most likely to tell somebody about to get them to try Graboid, and conversely, what is THE problem that’s most likely to make you not want to bother talking about us?
Oh, and by the way, the single thing that’s most likely to make you not like Graboid is a slow internet connection. As we’ve discovered many times now, it doesn’t matter what “ultra” plan you’re on with your internet provider, your connection isn’t always superfast. Use speedtest to measure your connection. Anything under 3000 kbps is going to cause streaming problems, although downloads should still be good. Then call Verizon/Comcast/whomever and yell at them. They like that.

Twice now I’ve started an HD movie download and it gets to 99% and then just sits there. I can walk away and come back hours later and its at 99%, eventually Graboid locks up and I have to close it, yet when I open it again both times the movie (Mission: Impossible III) was not in my downloads. I eventually got it to download and finish but I was charged for the 4.478GB of bandwidth twice even though it’s only one file on my PC. Not a biggy, but it’d be nice to get the bandwidth back..
I don’t like it when I’m watching a tv show and it half way to 3/4 through and wont rebuffer so I half
to stop and start all over again. the last few times I have downloaded any movies they eather didn’t download properly or they downloaded with no sound.
when I download a movie and its not in english!!!, It even had the american flag and it was French….what a waste of good bandwidth.
i want to know the file format. many of the files i download are a pain to burn.
The thing that ticks me off, which I guess really isn’t graboids fault - is how after i’m like 1/4th-1/2 into a movie - it simply stops. Didn’t need to re-buffer or anything - it just STOPS…
Everything is 100% perfect if I DOWNLOAD it, its just when I stream.
Thats basically it…and I guess you can say graboid is perfect since they really can’t control this problem - itsj ust my connection.
LATA GRABOID DEV TEAM!
YOUR SERVICE IS UN-REALLLL.
Nick.
I cant for the life of me get the download feature to work!? I’t was all fine and dandy in closed beta but retail came out and I paid my $10 and nothing. I delete my temp files and download every patch in the hopes that something will work, but alas…
BEST
I would definitely recommend GRABOID for downloading TV shows. That is my favourite function. It works well for me. There are a lot of choices, past and present, the content is well organized and 98% of the time there are no issues with wrong language etc.
WORST
I have had little success with movies. I don’t know if it is something I am doing or not doing correctly but I have only successfully downloaded one movie I can actually watch. The others, either don’t play once downloaded or I get no audio. If it is something I am doing, then perhaps better instructions can be posted for how to download then watch your movie. If I could get the movie thing working - I would be a GRABOID customer for life!
SUGGESTION
Move flagged and download archives away from the toolbar or somehow differentiate them so they are not confused with the flag and download commands. I don’t know how many times I end up opening an archive list while trying to flag a movie or show to add to the list.
I want to be able to burn a DVD from my Graboid downloads. I have spent hours trying with NO success.
Just spent 30+ hours downloading 5gig. Went to “processing” download, “Graboid has generated errors and will be shut down”…rebooted and restarted Graboid and MY 5 GIG is GONE!!!! I’m furious!! And it charged against my 50gig bandwidth limit. I’m about ready to cancel ..
Service and speed is flaky…
Unreliable downloads…
Half of downloads are poor quality…or just don’t work
Material needs to be better Identified by type/types of files, audio and more. Redundant movie titles need to be eliminated with only the best quality material allowed to stay on site. 20 copies of the same movie is not necessary. Source/uploader/etc needs to be identified so reliability of material can be determined by past experience with product from that particular source. Material needs to be seperated by nationality. I could go on, but then I’d have to start charging you for help….>;}
Ok today has been a bad day somehow a movie that i downloaded just disapeared nowhere to be found , and of course the bandwidth too…and now I cant even download anything I keep getting an error message…..and than its like frozen……but besides that for the last month its been great….
We should be able to rate the file after we have downloaded it saves others from getting a crappy DL
Moderator: You can rate the file. Click on the thumbs up or thumbs down button.
I just spent 30 minutes tracking down a file I had just downloaded. Maybe it’s Vista, but the files are NOT in the directory specified under “preferences”. I finally did a search and found all of them in some “virtualstore” directory with an incredibly long location string. I double-checked and preferences still shows them (supposedly) residing in the nntp\archive directory. Any thoughts?
Moderator: The “virtualstore” windows directory is vista security preventing modifying program files. If you want the files to show up in an obvious location it has to be in your documents folder.
One more thought. Some of the 98 and 99% hangs might be caused by mp4 files. I know I don’t have an mp4 codec on my computer. I just downloaded another mp4 and tried to fire it up that way, I got the player, but nothing ever happens. It just sits there. I’m betting that it’ll fire up if I install an mp4 codec at home tonight.
I want the all list to display all not just the fist 20 to 50
I have downloaded 2 movies which took up twice the bandwidth they were supposed to i.e. 700 MB ended up as 1400 MB complete??
my problems all above especially freezing shutting down.all ok on freebie , but now pd for gold an nothing works .have tried waiting half hour.still no go .as for downloading my movie took the bandwidth ,but movie didnt eventuate.WAS pleased with your program ,but unless you fix the problem ,im sorry but i will be asking for my money back, and cancelling subscription
Well, I added another silver on the 15th when I ran out of bandwidth and expected it to be good for a month. I didn’t expect that 5 days later on the 20th I’d be charged for another silver account. Furthermore, when the second silver was added on the 20th I lost roughly 8.5-9gigs of bandwidth from the silver upgrade on the 15th, which I expected to be good for a month.
I guess if that’s the way you want to run things, that’s your business. However, I think that you should have spelled out exactly what adding an early renewal meant in terms of time and lost bandwidth and I’ve looked at the FAQ and Blogs and haven’t found any explanation.
I was one of your beta testers and have recommended Graboid to a number of friends since it went public but, I’m beginning to wonder if it wouldn’t be better to start recommending a usenet account? Especially since I notice that you’ve decided to jack up the prices today.
[moderator: Hi Al, I've contacted you by e-mail regarding this issue]
After I pay for the membership, 2.97/month, it appears that I am charged for the materials that would have been free under the “free membership”. Shouldn’t these small files still be free to view, I’m thinking that I shouldn’t have ordered the actual membership. Also, if I try to download a file of say, 8000MB, it’s telling me that I haven’t enough bandwidth left. Isn’t 10G of bandwidth more than 8000MB? I could be wrong about that, but I’m pretty sure I’m right. Specifically I was trying to download Silence of the Lambs and I have about 6.5 GB of bandwidth remaining.
[moderator: the paid membership gives you more bandwidth, access to some larger files and a new content category. However yes, you pay for some of the content that otherwise would have been free. Yes, 10 GB is more than 8000 MB (8 GB), but access to the really large files, 5 GB and larger, is only available on the gold plan. That's just the way we've had to break out the features and files for the various plans. There IS a version of the file you want that is < 2 GB - it's just compressed. Try streaming it to make sure the quality is what you want.]
Every movie, in the last two days, that I’ve tried to download does not play the audio. I’ve messed with a million things. TV shows work great, 100% of the time so far, but MOVIES! I don’t understand if I’m doing something wrong or not. Every episode of Underworld: Evolution, does not have audio after I stream it. I tried downloading them but they just say that they’re queued, they never actually begin to download. Aggravating.
[moderator: for DVD-rip movies, you can often fix the audio track by looking at the "audio" drop down for VLC player (when you're not in fullscreen mode), select a different track, there are usually several, and see if it works]
if your going to include VLC media player, add it’s GPL clause, preferably where users will actually see it, and fix your code so users with vlc installed can actually view your video
