What the heck does “beta” mean?
Companies who develop software and applications often release something called a ‘beta’ version and Graboid is no different. Anytime we do a major release with a lot of changes – like Graboid 2.0 – we will release a ‘beta’ version.
‘Beta’ basically means that it is not quite the final product; it works, but it still may have bugs in it. Why would we release something that has bugs in it? Well, we need your help to fix them. We do a lot of testing in house, but because every computer is different – different anti-virus software, firewalls, operating systems, software libraries, and so on – it’s hard for us to fully test the application in all possible scenarios.
This is why community involvement is crucial. We release beta versions of the application to our community so they can try it out and provide feedback on how the program runs on various computers and overall, what they think of the newest Graboid. We use that feedback and bug reports to help polish the beta version into a final, solid application.
Once the official version of Graboid is ready, it is released on the website on the “downloads” page.
Graboid undergoes constant updates and fixes to make sure it runs the best it can on everyone’s computers. If something isn’t working quite right for you, please drop into the forums and help us understand how we can fix it!
Banner ads in the application
You may have noticed an advertisement or two in Graboid. Sometimes it’s about a Graboid related promotion, and sometimes we’re simply sharing one of our cool partner companies. Either way, these ads will never interfere with your use of Graboid. These are trusted partners and we don’t get anything if you click on an ad. If you have questions about the services shown, just click on the banner to go to their website and read more about their services, or contact their support team.
Q:s there any possibility that Graboid will make an app for the iPhone?
– Mani.
A:Great question Mani. Mobile phones are becoming an integral part of our lives and because of this, you can bet that we’re working on ways to use Graboid on a mobile device!
We’re currently working on an interface that will let you search, flag, and mark videos for download. This way, you can control what files Graboid is running and downloading on your home computer while you’re out.
We’re also looking at ways to download videos to your phone, but we are facing a few challenges. How much bandwidth do our members have on their cellular data plan? Can their phone processor play a typical video from Graboid? Does a typical phone have enough storage space to store a video? These are some things we’re going to be working through. So the short answer is yes, we’re definitely working on some form of Graboid interface for iPhone!
